I grew up in Longview, Washington. With its many rivers, forests, hiking trails and scenic vistas, southwest Washington provides an abundance of opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts like me. Hiking and camping are still my favorite activities. That's me fishing in the photo on the left. Growing up the oldest of six brothers and one sister, I had a lot of practical training in debate and negotiation, which certainly helps in practicing law. I also benefited from growing up in a close-knit community where everybody seemed to know everybody else, though that can be both good and bad.
Now I'm in the city and enjoy it immensely. Seattle is the only city I know where you get a strong urban feel while at the same time are you surrounded by the wonders of nature. I love to travel when I can. One of my recent trips was a week long journey by canoe down the remote reaches of the Missouri River in Montana. Being so far removed from cell phone coverage and the hustle of everyday life was a rare treat. The picture on the right is one from the trip.
I'm also a huge sports fan. College basketball is my favorite, but I enjoy pretty much every major sport except for hockey. It can sometimes be hard being a sports fan in Seattle, but it's always worth it when your team wins.
